Wireless Wide Area Telemetry (WWAT)

WWAT Overview

WWAT Overview

Wireless monitoring of instrumentation sensors (4 - 20 mA) such as temperature, flow, pressure, voltage, current, water/fuel levels, weight, speeds, revolutions, etc. with existing SCADA software systems have been a requirement in the industry for many years.

Typical limitations with wired telemetry systems are:

  • Cable distance restrictions
  • Cables are vulnerable to aging, breaking and cable theft
  • Cost of digging cable trenches and laying cable
  • Damage of equipment due to lightning
  • Maintenance of wired telemetry systems

ESS has considered the above shortcomings and has designed a unique new system called WWAT (Wireless Wide Area Telemetry) that enables wide area telemetry by virtue of wireless communications and usage of other third party communications infrastructure.

WWAT-488

WWAT-488 Module

The WWAT488 module has 4 analog inputs (4 - 20 mA instrumentation standard), 8 digital inputs and 8 digital outputs.

The WWAT488 module can easily be mounted on the industrial standard DIN rail and placed in a DB board. All inputs and outputs are opto-coupler protected against surges.

WWAT-C

WWAT-C Module

The WWAT-C module is a concentrator module which is used to interface a number of closely located WWAT modules through the same radio interface.

The WWAT modules are hooked onto a bus to the WWAT-C, referred to as the WWAT Telemetry Bus, which can be either configured as RS485 or Ethernet.

WWAT-GSM

WWAT-GSM Module

The WWAT-GSM interface module provides GSM connectivity to WWAT system.

The WWAT-GSM interface module can either be connected to directly the WWAT-488 module or via the WWAT Telemetry Bus, which can be configured as either RS485 or Ethernet.

WWAT-LAN

WWAT-LAN Module

The WWAT-LAN interface module connects to the WWAT-488 module to provide Ethernet connectivity to the WWAT system.

The WWAT LAN module can be used to connect the WWAT-488 modules to a WWAT-C / WWAT-GSM module for remote connectivity or to connect to existing LAN and/or WAN infrastructures.

WWAT OPC Server

WWAT OPC Server

The WWAT OPC Server is an OPC 2.0x compliant data access server which allows the WWAT system to be connected to OPC client software such as SCADA applications.
